Title: The effect of exercise intervention on community-dwelling seniors' fitness level.
Author: Hoops, Samuel
Abstract: Amongst the many health problems plaguing the elderly, falling is of major concern. Approximately 30% of community-dwelling seniors older than 65 endure an injurious fall each year with the most serious outcome reported as death. Research shows that physical activity can be utilized as a preventive measure in reducing the occurrence and risk of falls by improving or maintaining balance and activities of daily living (i.e. getting up and down from a seated position, reaching for seatbelt, combing one’s hair, dressing oneself, going to the bathroom, lifting items, walking the mall, climbing stairs).
